Bloemfontein businessman Ronaldo Scholtz won the trip of a lifetime to the Seychelles thanks to his victory in the National Final of the Vodacom Origins of Golf pro-am series on the Sunshine Tour.
Gouws teamed up with Sunshine Tour professional Hennie du Plessis to win the 36-hole National Final with a betterball score of 94 points and by 5 points over the rest of the field at the Simola Golf and Country Estate in Knysna this past week.
The Financial Director with Konica Minolta can now look forward to a week in the Seychelles with his wife Belinda-Lee as the reward for his efforts on the fairways.
“I practised quite a bit leading up the final. Then my professional partner, Hennie du Plessis, played like a superstar. He shot a 63 on the second day. We enjoyed each other’s company and it was such a pleasure,” said Scholtz.
This is the 16th year of the Vodacom Origins of Golf series, where invited Vodacom VIP amateurs play alongside the Sunshine Tour professionals in a two-day pro-am on South Africa’s top golf courses.
Scholtz has been playing the series for 12 of the 16 years and has qualified for the final on five occasions. This year he qualified by virtue of his victory in the tournament at Sishen Golf Club. But this is the first time he has managed to win the National Final.
“Every time you see this wonderful prize up for grabs and you dream about it being you, and this year it actually happened. The last thing the golf guys want to hear is that I’m not even going to take my golf clubs with and will just relax with my wife.”
They’ll also leave their nine Greyhound dogs behind. Scholtz and his wife travelled to the National Final with their beloved dogs, and in between making the winning putts on the golf course, he also found time to take some of their dogs for five walks on the beach in the short time they were in Knysna.
